Who are you and where are you located?
Harness Technology is owned and operated by Wendell T. Harness. We are located in Salem, Oregon, but provide services worldwide.
Can you register our domain name?
Absolutely. We can manage your domain registrations on your behalf and do so for many of our clients. We register your domain(s) in your name, so you retain full ownership. We only list ourselves as administrative and technical contacts so that we can maintain it for you.
Can you host our website?

What is the difference between a domain name and web hosting?
Domain registration and web hosting are two different services that often cause confusion with consumers. A domain name is the web address for your website; for example, harntech.com is a domain name that is registered with a domain registrar. Web hosting is the place where the files associated with your website are kept and made accessible to the internet. Often, a company will sell domain registration and web hosting, but they are still two distinctly different products.
Look at it this way: the domain name is akin to your street address and web hosting is the parcel of land where you build a house.
How much will my website cost?
There are many factors in determining the price of a website and it depends on your needs as well as the complexity and features you desire. It is impossible to determine a “standard” price without at least a little bit of information about your project. Do you provide competitive pricing?
We are a low overhead operation, so our pricing is very competitive. As a small business, you can expect the kind of personal service that is often lacking in larger companies. We encourage you to review our testimonials and request a free quote for more information.
How long does it take to build a website?
The short answer is: “it depends”. As with pricing, developing a time frame for building your website depends on the complexity and size of your project. Other factors include your response time to communication requests and our current workload. Generally speaking, however, a typical turnaround time is usually around 6 to 8 weeks. Basic websites may take less time and more complex websites will likely take longer.
Will my website be listed on search engines?
We use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to get your website indexed on all the major search engines, including Google, Yahoo and Bing. They will automatically index your site when we officially launch, making it available to their search bots. We cannot guarantee (nor can anyone else) exactly where you will be listed and how your site will rank, but we do everything in our power to make sure your site is as search engine friendly as possible.
Will I be able to track how many visitors I have to my website?
With Google Analytics, comprehensive traffic statistics are only a click away. We can set this up for you, if you like.
Will I be able to update my own website?
Assuming you want us to use a Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress when building your website, the answer is yes. You will be able to manage and create pages, write blog articles and otherwise manage your overall website 24/7. If you choose not to use a CMS, we offer Website Maintenance packages.
How quickly do you complete website updates?
Website updates are always made in a timely manner, and we always return calls promptly. Most updates are made within a 48 hours or less.
