About Us
Harness Technology is a home-based, "mom and pop shop" offering web design, web development, custom computers, virus removal and other technology-based services. The company name is based on the last name of the married couple running the place, but also serves a double-meaning which basically alludes to "embracing technology".
You may actually know us from our previous business name, DynaWerx. We recently changed the name because we wanted it to be more personal, less "corporate" and more appropriate to the services we offer.
Nice To Meet You
My name is Wendell and I'm the guy who provides the services. My wife and I work from our home in beautiful downtown Dallas, a small town snuggled along the east side of the Oregon Coastal Range. That's just 13 miles west of Salem (the State Capital) and about 40 miles from Lincoln City (at the Oregon Coast). My family and I enjoy our stress-free life in our Craftsman-style home, built in 1910. My office is in one of the rooms near the front of the house, where I can look out the windows and enjoy the neighborhood.
We officially founded our business in 2004. Prior to that, I worked as a sole-proprietor in web design and development beginning in 1996. Even before that, I was working in computer building, computer repair, virus removal and even land surveying (a highly technical field requiring lots of math and trigonometry). As a teen, I would tinker with electronics, fixing family appliances and such. Heck, I even hacked into my Atari 400 gaming console and wrote my own games in the BASIC computer language.
Since the early 1990's, I have been self-teaching web-based programming languages and mastering the art of web design. As web standards were first developing, I latched on and never let go. As it turns out, following web standards is great for overall consistency. But more importantly for our clients, it enforces search engine optimization (SEO) as well as site loading speed and efficiency. I still keep up with the standards as set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in addition to accessibility and usability standards.
I've also taught myself the Smarty Template Engine, a great way to build web sites by separating code logic from design. I'm also pretty good with PHP and MySQL databases as well as Javascript. You can never stop learning and I fully intend to keep on going.
